Girl, 15, returns to parents after 10 months abduction
A 15-year-old girl who was taken and kept for over 10 months by a woman in Abuja, has being reunited with her family.
The girl (name withheld), a resident of Saburi, Dei-dei, Abuja, was reported missing at the Gwagwa Police Division in the FCT by her parents when she was 14 years old.
A prosecuting counsel from the Federal Ministry of Justice, David Kafanchan, who arraigned the accused before a magistrate’s court, said the woman, one Chioma Benjamin, 22, a resident of Mpape area in the FCT, had admitted the crime.
He, however, said the accused woman had returned the girl to her house, saying the victim claimed she was chased out by her family sometime in October last year.
The prosecuted said the accused was arrested on August 8, after the girl returned to her family.
He asked the court to try the accused summarily based on her confession to the crime and her role in reuniting the girl to her family.
Magistrate Omolola Tolulope granted the accused bail in the sum of N15,000 with two reliable sureties, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The magistrate adjourned the case to September 28 for ruling.
