Pink Fleur Store Now Open
Young entrepreneur from Adamawa state Zainab Salihijo-Jiddah is a calm, focused and dedicated lady who has carved a niche for herself in the Nigerian fashion industry. On the 4th of November, 2017 she had her store opening at number 16, Bangui Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.
As soon as I arrived, I introduced myself to her and was warmly welcomed. I proceeded to look round the boutique where varieties of clothing were displayed.
The store comprises of an inner section and an outer section, each section housing gowns, jumpsuits, skirts, blouses, office attires and kimonos all in unique designs and at affordable prices with impeccable tailoring. Zainab is elegant and effortlessly chic, it’s no surprise then that her designs are outstanding and fashionable.
Unfortunately, I hadn’t the opportunity to talk at length with her as she was busy attending to one client after the other, but she was kind enough to give me her phone number through which I contacted her and was able to ask a few questions;
How did you start Pink Fleur/ the story behind it?
Well, I used to make clothes for myself and my family and friends loved what I made and requested that I make for them as well. I realized that I could make money from it so I started my business. I first started in my Aunt’s garage right after my NYSC with my NYSC allowance that I had saved up. That’s truly how I started and I think that’s how so many fashion designers also started.
What inspires you to continue doing what you do?
What inspires me to continue is seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces as I meet to their needs and demands. It makes me really happy that I am the reason behind their smiles. It feels good to be able to do what I love and make people happy through that. It inspires me to do more. I’m also inspired by my staff. I know that they depend on the business for their living, so it makes me work harder knowing that what I give them makes all the difference in their lives.”
I have always thought that no matter what you do as a person, no matter how hard you work and how much time you put into your work, there will never be fulfilment and that deep sense of peace if your heart isn’t attached to your work. Ultimately, that’s what we seek to achieve when we pursue our dreams. A sense of balance, contentment and satisfaction. Zainab Salihijo-Jiddah isn’t just a fashion designer, she is someone who sincerely cares about the happiness and satisfaction of her family, friends, clients and staff.
